NOTE! This page is under construction. I’m moving all of the files to this new URL. Gimme some time.

Catherine Wheel members: Brian Futter (lead guitar, vocals), Rob Dickinson (lead vocals, guitar) and Neil Sims (drums, vocals). Not shown: Dave Hawes (bass, 1991-98), Ben Ellis (bass, vocals, 1999-2000), Peter Whittaker (touring keyboardist)
Disclaimer, mostly to convince my webhosts that I don’t deserve to be banned:
Manager extraordinaire Merck Mercuriadis has given permission to distribute Catherine Wheel B-sides and live tracks freely. The following limitations apply:
- A track may not be distributed if the band doesn’t own both the lyrics and the music (i.e. cover songs).
- No tracks appearing on the six CW albums may be distributed. In other words, only true B-sides and commercially unavailable tracks are eligible.
- Distributors may not profit from distribution, of course.
With these limitations in mind, I’ve uploaded the following tracks.
Right-click and “Save Target As” to download. Or click the audio players to preview the tracks.
Catherine Wheel B-sides
For these tracks, I chose an order that seems to work, mix-wise. As Merck has said (inexplicably using the first person plural, despite the fact that he probably can’t even play a kazoo): “It’s always been important to us that the extra tracks we record for singles be as good as anything else we do.”

Which B-sides are missing?
- All tracks from the official B-sides album Like Cats and Dogs.
- All cover song B-sides (Scott Walker’s “30th Century Man,” Mission of Burma’s “That’s When I Reach for My Revolver,” Pink Floyd’s “Wish You Were Here,” Rush’s “The Spirit of Radio,” Hüsker Dü’s “Don’t Want to Know If You Are Lonely” and Sebadoh’s “Willing to Wait”). Find these on mid-90s CW singles near you.
- Wishville-era B-sides (which were released as “The Storm” and “Towering and Flowering” on Rob Dickinson’s solo CD Fresh Wine for the Horses).
Catherine Wheel Live in San Francisco, 2000
This is a fan recording from the Wishville tour, which was fully “plugged in” and featured Ben Ellis (Serafin) on bass and Peter Whittaker (Wonder Stuff) on keyboards. Tracy Bonham was the opening act; she and her band made cameos during this tour, helping out with such songs as “Judy Staring at the Sun,” “I Want to Touch You” and “Black Metallic.”
NOTE: If you burn these tracks to discs, choose “Disc At Once” with no spacing between tracks. Otherwise there will be a gap, which is pretty annoying in a continuous live recording.

CD2:

- “Intravenous” (6.1M)
- “Little Muscle” (8.7M)
Rob Dickinson Live in Toronto, 2005
This is a fan recording. Rob (guitar, vocals) played this mostly acoustic show with David Rolfe (guitar, vocals) and Kevin McKeelan (keyboards, vocals). This was one of the first dates on the Fresh Wine for the Horses tour, so all tracks other than the last three are from that album.
NOTE: If you burn these tracks to a disc, choose “Disc At Once” with no spacing between tracks. Otherwise there will be a gap, which is pretty annoying in a continuous live recording.
